Pottery in Betschdorf was initiated in the 18th century by emigrants from Rhineland, who brought with them an original technique using sandstone with salt varnishing. The distinctive grey and blue ceramics have made the name Betschdorf synonymous with pottery the world over. The are about a dozen pottery business in the town.
This enterprise was created in the year 1834 and is today still another family business. This craftsman might be the only one, the "Hansi" of motives very much liked used on a very extensive series. The "Hansi" of motives comes from the painter Jean Jacques Waltz called Hansi, born on 23 February 1873 in Colmarand died with 78 years on 10 June 1951. The pottery Siegfried Burger & sons was created 1842 by Mr. Burger in the heart of the villageof Soufflenheim. It is since 6 generations in family estate.
